Prototyping the Medida Mini: Function, Form, and a Few Surprises

The Medida collection was envisioned as a line of modern, furniture-style humidors; refined, functional, and personal. Like traditional models, the Medida series doesn’t rely on mechanical temperature control. Instead, we employed Boveda’s two-way humidity packs to maintain internal consistency. For this prototype, we calibrated the design based on specifications from one of our earliest supporters. The result? A humidor that exceeded it's design brief and leaned more transitional than expected -bridging modern minimalism and classic warmth.

During shop testing, the Mini consistently held temperatures about three degrees cooler than ambient conditions. Over a 30-day span, relative humidity averaged 68%. In a real-world, two-month user trial, where the lid was only occasionally opened, the box sustained a stable 65% to 72% RH without requiring a pack replacement. That’s a testament to the integrity of the build and the efficiency of the materials.

What truly stood out was the Medida Mini’s adaptability. We initially imagined this series as an ode to minimalism: clean lines, subtle finishes, a design that quietly complements contemporary interiors. But this prototype taught us otherwise. The Mini doesn’t just belong in a modern setting, it melds into a range of aesthetics, offering harmony in more spaces than we anticipated.

The collection now consists of three standard formats: the Medida, the Slim, and the Mini. While the external dimensions are fixed, we’ve built in layers of customization, finishes, details, and features—all designed to reflect individual preferences. That flexibility made all the difference, and it’s something we’ll continue to explore and refine in future iterations.

Prototyping the Medida Mini was a defining moment. It’s one thing to develop idea on paper - it’s another to watch them take shape in the real world. No matter the scale, there’s a certain thrill in witnessing the transition from concept to reality.

This build wasn't flawless - and that was intentional. We approach every prototype with uncompromising expectations, knowing that every deviation is a lesson. The Medida Mini held its own and, in some ways, outperformed what we thought possible within its clean, understated format.
