Elevatating Cigar Culture Through Design

At Ocir Humidors, the story begins with a simple question: What if a humidor could be more? More than a box. More than a fixture. A piece that carries the spirit of its owner - crafted with the intimacy of a family workshop and the precision of thoughtful design. We explore every what if with care:

  • What if a humidor could echo personal style?

  • What if craftsmanship could elevate tradition?

  • What if the unexpected could feel timeless?

Each humidor we create is a reflection of this journey - where heritage, innovation, and individuality meet.

About the Designer

Derico D. Dabney has always seen the world through a designer’s lens. Growing up in Birmingham, Alabama—in the shadows of the world’s largest cast-iron statue and the nation’s oldest baseball park—he was surrounded by structure, history, and form from an early age. His interest in design was sparked through early exposure to architecture, especially during his time in an AIA (American Institute of Architects) exploratory club. It was there that he began to understand how spaces and objects shape how we live and feel.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Mississippi State University. A furniture design course with instructor Guy Batchelder helped sharpen his interest in product design. It was also the first time a professor told him he might truly have a gift for it. That moment stuck.

Over the years, Derico has built a multidisciplinary design career grounded in cabinetry, millwork, and architectural interiors. His experience spans design engineering, project leadership, and product development—shaped by work in interior design, custom fabrication, contract furniture, and workplace strategy. He has contributed to residential and commercial projects across the U.S., worked alongside respected industry figures, and shared his expertise as an instructor at Lanier Technical College.

Each role has sharpened his ability to balance precision with creativity. It has also deepened his perspective on how design enhances both space and experience. Today, through Ocir Humidors, he brings that perspective into focus—creating pieces that honor tradition, reflect personality, and reframe how cigar storage can look and feel.

"The cigar lifestyle and culture convinces people to hold sacrosanct certain traditions. I believe you can honor those traditions while embracing contemporary styling. A humidor can be more than utilitarian - it can be personal."
